Philip qualified as a rural chartered surveyor in 1992 and became a Fellow of the RICS in 2016.

He started his career with the Ministry of Defence Land Agents in Shrewsbury, but went into his own private practice in 1993.

He has appeared as advocate in over 150 rural arbitrations, Agricultural land tribunals and public inquiries.

He was appointed to the panel of Rural Arbitrators by the President of the RICS in 2009 and is one of only 25 rural arbitrators on the panel in England and Wales.

Philip currently chairs the RICS Dispute Resolution Standards Working Group which is responsible for setting the strategic direction for the future of Dispute Resolution in the RICS, and overseeing standards in Dispute Resolution within the RICS

He sits on a number of working parties including the working party that produced the current RICS diploma in arbitration.

He is also the author of the current RICS Guidance Note on Rural Arbitration

As well as speaking regularly on Dispute Resolution, Philip is a RICS tutor and examiner for the arbitration diploma and has been a repeat speaker at RICS conferences for arbitrators.

He is also one of the three committee members that run Rural Arbrix and is a member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators.

He speaks regularly to farming groups as well as speaking at RICS and CAAV conferences

He sits on the Tenancy Reform Industry Group that advises the Government on agricultural tenancy matters.

He has appeared as an expert witness in the High Court and Lands Tribunal (now Upper Tier Tribunal) and has advised private clients, corporate clients and Government on dispute resolution issues, including being invited to 10 Downing Street in November 2015 to advise on dispute resolution in the planning sector.

His greatest passion, however, is spending time with his wife and two young daughters.
